other cities

jondi & i have been getting out and about with our tag team dj sets as of late (check out the journal section on jondiandspesh.com for some detail on these escapades) . over the last year we have been djing together more often in sf, sort of prepping for what we're up to now which is "touring". being on the road is interesting for us because, although the music we have produced has found its way all over the planet, we ourselves have not. in fact we have been very content to stay in sf and nurture the scene we have here. sf is our home and, at least where i am concerned, the scene here is the how, what, and why of what we do (i have always admired the djs who’s names were inseparable from their venues like david macuso of the loft or frankie knuckles of the warehouse). so, when we hit the road it's as if we're bringing qoöl with us, at least sound-wise. believe it or not, it's new to people. at first was a bit scary to be honest, but then something clicked. a measure of humble pride took over as i realized that we're there as ambassadors of the sound and scene that we're such a part of (and so proud of) back home in sf. audiences are sparking to it too. that's when it gets really fun. so, i guess we're at the beginning of something again. i'll check in about this again and let you know how it's going.

live 105

last night, jondi & i made an appearance on "live 105", one of san francisco's big radio stations, and boy was it fun. we got to plug our new album, and air a special dj mix, and chat it up on air with hosts aaron axelsen and "producer, shawn". we've met shawn before. he's the one that got us on the show in the 1st place (thanks shawn!). i can't believe we've never met aaron before. he got his start at the station many years ago working as an intern for one of my dj heroes and the 1st djs i ever heard play dance music on the radio, steve masters. aaron, despite being the music director of a large station in a competitive market and hosing two radio shows himself, is really cool and down to earth. not only that, but he's the 1st radio dj that ever did all of the following:
-pronounced "loöq" correctly
-kept straight what "loöq" and "qoöl" were respectively
-actually knew what jondi & i about and what we're up to in san francisco and beyond.
aaron's staturday night electronic show is called, subsonic on 105.3fm give it a listen.
