ok, i'm excited about this gig. no real reason. well, perhaps it's because i've got loads (like lots and lots) of new tunes that i sort of can't wait to unleash on a good sound system on a friday night in san francisco. could it be as simple as that? i think so...
just an early warning about may 7. i'll be celebrating my birthday at mezzanine in san francisco. come on down if you can make it.
the timing just fell together with an event being put together for visiting djs, steve porter and tim skinner. both these guys have lots of cred in the "progressive house" circles, have toured with sasha & john, etc. i'll be playing an early-ish set before jumping off the decks to bounce around the room with you all. there's been talk of roping me in later for a three way tag team mash up... we'll see about that!
last night during my set at qoöl one of the turntables went haywire and began speeding up and slowing down all on it's own. i just stopped the music, took the record off and moved it over to one of the other decks. my next move? i just reached over and ripped the tone arm right off the bad deck - literally. the whole thing came right off in my hand. i guess you had to be there because we all laughed so hard it became hard to dj. i gave the mostly in tact tone arm to ryan papa as a souvenir. i heard later that he was using it as a cigarette holder. i asked the venue, 111 minna, to invoice me for the tone arm parts & labor when that thing goes into the shop.
