loöq records is the music label i run with jondi and we love it. we are coming up on release number 42 in a few days, and we'll likely hit 50 by the end of the year. one thing that strikes me about being part of a label is that there is always more work associated with running it than meets the eye. another thing is that strikes me is the charge we all get from building a catalog of music that we think does not suck. believe me, that's a challenge.
everyone at loöq towers (our term for our san francisco office) has no unsatisfied pen pal urges - we get our fill because our artists come from all over the planet. being so international and such, we can also tell you things like the the fact that the united states post office "global priority service" does not extent to slovenia. for that you'll need to use something called "air mail". we can also tell you about the finer points of wiring money to foreign bank accounts.
inside the towers, i have a "stand up desk" because i tend to be fidgety, and pace back and forth when getting stuff done, especially when on the phone. jackie and jondi both sit at more traditional but very cool looking desks. the phone and fax only ring when people call to license tracks for huge tv shows or hollywood movies. otherwise it's all "im" and email. the soundtrack in our office changes every day, but usually involves some time listening to a station called kcrw via the internet.
loöq towers gets a ton of natural light through two huge sky lights which makes it hot in the summer and noisy when it rains hard. jondi prefers a room temperature of 74 degrees fahrenheit, i'll take 70, and i don't know about jackie because she never comments on that sort of thing. lunch usually comes from one of the many neighborhood restaurants, with the favorite probably being "koh samui & the monkey", aka the thai place next door. despite the name, there is no monkey on the menu.
until next time, look out for our next single release, hydergine by momu with remixes by tim fretwell and jondi & spesh.
